Good Shepherd Catholic Parish
Church Renovation & School Expansion Capital Campaign
Honoring Our Traditions, Building Our Future Campaign
Good Shepherd Catholic Parish in Evansville, Indiana, has done the hard work of drafting a Long-Range Facilities Master Plan. Within that framework and in consultation with parish and finance councils, committees, and other key leaders, two priorities were identified. To meet the community’s most pressing needs the church sanctuary needed renovation and their early childhood education classrooms needed to be addressed.
The church building is known for its distinctive, modern architecture that is a neighborhood landmark. But, while its bold exterior draws attention, the interior of the worship space did not reflect the beauty, reverence, and sacred tradition of Catholic liturgy. Though functional, the sanctuary lacked warmth, sacred art, and the design features that draw people into deeper prayer and worship.
The parish’s mission beyond the walls of the sanctuary extended to Good Shepherd Catholic School. Serving students from Preschool through 8th Grade, it is flourishing, particularly its early childhood programs. Yet, the use of temporary classroom pods for the youngest students were insufficient for the high-quality education and care the parish is committed to providing. And that families expect.
To start on their Long-Range Facilities Master Plan, Good Shepherd launched their Honoring Our Traditions, Building Our Future capital campaign to address their top two priorities: Phase I – Renovate the sanctuary to create a more beautiful, functional, and inspiring space for Catholic worship: and Phase II – Expand the school to include permanent Preschool and Pre-K classrooms within the main building, replacing the temporary classroom pods.
The campaign was met with an overwhelming spirit of generosity and unity. Parishioners responded with prayer, service, and sacrificial giving, ultimately exceeding the campaign goal! Phase I funding has been met, and there is a firm foundation to move forward to Phase II.
With faith in action, Good Shepherd Catholic Parish continues to grow. They are deeply rooted in tradition and joyfully building a future of worship, learning, and community.
