St. Luke’s Lutheran Church

Campaign Purpose

Since 1892, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church has been a cornerstone of faith, worship, and service in Summerville, South Carolina. As the congregation continued to grow, members took a bold step of faith by constructing their Family Life Center to expand their ministry programs. To help address the financial responsibilities that came with this investment and strengthen the church’s future, St. Luke’s partnered with Walsh & Associates to conduct a Feasibility & Planning Study and launch their A Legacy of Faith – A Future Made Strong capital campaign.

Debt Reduction

Through the feasibility study process, church leaders and members recognized that reducing the remaining Family Life Center debt would create new opportunities to expand ministry, outreach, and community service. They then embarked on their capital campaign to focus on paying down the church’s building debt so future resources could be directed toward caring for the campus, strengthening pastoral leadership, growing outreach programs, and increasing support for local and global ministries. By addressing this financial obligation, St. Luke’s positioned itself to continue welcoming, loving, and serving all while building a stronger foundation for future generations.

Maintenance

The study also identified an immediate facility need: the installation of a campus-wide Lightning Arrestor System. Although largely unseen, this investment reflected St. Luke’s commitment to responsible stewardship and the long-term care of its church facilities.

Campaign Success

We at Walsh & Associates felt truly blessed to walk alongside the members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church as they came together around a shared vision for their future. Their commitment to faithful stewardship, ministry growth, and financial responsibility demonstrated a deep love for their church and community. Watching the congregation unite to strengthen its ministry, protect its facilities, and prepare for future generations was a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when faith, vision, and generosity work together.

Testimonials

“Making this dream come true (building our Family Life Center) has come at a cost that is becoming clearer to our church community as time goes on. The building debt is a burden we chose together, and the rewards have been extraordinary. Yet, as our history shows, we are a community that rises to every challenge, uniting in faith, generosity, and service to ensure that our financial debt does not hinder our mission and calls to service…

While we are grateful for all that the Family Life Center makes possible, the money currently dedicated to its mortgage could be used for ministry instead. It could be better used to expand ministries and programs, and to find new ways to welcome, love, and serve people as Jesus calls us to do…

By eliminating our debt, we free up resources to invest in people, ministries, and our facilities. This ensures that St. Luke’s remains a vibrant, welcoming place where faith is nurtured, ministries thrive, and God’s work is multiplied.”
